Bringing the Community together.

The Worthing Heritage Alliance was established in 2010. Its key aims are to represent, develop and promote the heritage of Worthing and its surrounding area. To achieve these aims the Alliance works in partnership with local regional and national bodies. Membership of the Alliance comprises representatives from all groups and professional organisations which have an interest in the heritage of Worthing and its surrounding area. The Alliance aims to work collaboratively with all relevant organisations to advocate Worthing’s heritage, through fostering a wider interest and active participation in heritage events, projects and attendance at heritage venues. We are proud to be a member of Community Works.
Heritage Trails
These newer trails below are part of a project to refresh the original twelve trails, and expand the available library. They are aimed at those with a general interest in the Worthing area. The new trails were funded by Worthing Borough Council via the CIL fund (Community Infrastructure Levy), and are supported by the Worthing Heritage Alliance.
The twelve original Heritage Trails are the product of a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by the Worthing Heritage Alliance. They cover a wide diversity of topics and local areas and together enable us to take a fascinating walk through many aspects of our local history and that of the surrounding countryside. They are intended to be enjoyed both as part of organised walks, scheduled on a regular basis with an experienced guide, or unaccompanied. They contain an aerial map with places of interest along the trail marked and described in detail. A number of the Trails have video links associated with them. These give a more personal account at particular points along the way, with a commentary from Chris Hare, the Project Manager and local historian, supported by members of the Alliance. Some video clips are currently unavailable.
There are also some very interesting walks & maps produced by other groups in Worthing, such as the Twitten Map by Transition Town Worthing, and the Wildflower Trail Map. There are also quite a few Blue Plaque Heritage Trails on Worthing Society’s website.
